Alimos is one of the suburbs at the southern part of Attica, known for its proximity to the sea and the good quality of life that it provides to its residents. Initially it consisted of pasture lands until the 1970s it developed residentially while wealthy Athenians started to build country houses and hotels opened at the area, like the nearby Elliniko. Elliniko was inhabited by refugees after the Asia Minor Catastrophe and gradually evolved into a neighborhood of wealthy residents. At the area operated until 2001 the main airport of Athens.
