The erection of the National Theatre, Royal Theatre then, was decided by king George I in order to cover the capital’s need for a permanent theatre. Ernst Ziller delivered a magnificent building with obvious renaissance elements managing to handle imaginatively the peculiarities of the building plot. The National Theatre with its intense history has marked the urban culture both with its performances and the importance of the people who worked there.
