The Cultural Centre “Melina Merkouri” has been housed since 1988 at the old hat factory of Ilias Poulopoulos, which was founded in 1886 and is known as “PIL-POUL". The facilities at the industrial stone building, with a small and austere structure that is preserved as a monument of industrial architecture, is an important point of cultural reference. Nowadays, it hosts two permanent exhibitions, ‘A Journey Through Athens”, a tour to the life of the city in the beginning of the 20th century, and the Haridimos Shadow Puppet Museum.
