The Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens houses an invaluable treasure of knowledge which covers Greek history from antiquity to the modern times. The unique research collection includes books, documents, journals, manuscripts and works of art. The building was constructed at the slopes of Lycabettus hill in 1923 after a study by the Americans Van Pelt and Thompson in order to house the personal library of Johannes Gennadius.
