The church of Agios Loukas is situated at the area of Patissia, and is worth visiting not only for its architectural merit but also because here was the oldest early Christian basilica of Athens, which dated from the 1st century.

It seems that the church was destroyed ring the Greek Revolution in 1821. The later church was founded in 1864 according to the plans of the German architect Ernst Ziller. The icons in the whole church are painted on a sheet of gold by acclaimed artists. Like Photis Kontoglou.
