A visit to the First Cemetery of Athens means that you are taking a stroll to the history of Athens and the new Greek state. Here are the tombs of historically important people, politics and intellectual people. The cemetery is a green outdoors sculpture gallery with dozens of works of art almost of all the sculptures of Greek art of the 19th and 20th century. Among the most important of them is the “Sleeping Girl” by Yannoulis Chalepas. The First Cemetery of Athens was founded in 1834.
