This day tour will introduce you to the Mediterranean way of eating, entertaining, and living. We will pick you up with our van and driver early in the morning from your place and drive you to Lavrio port, where you will take a ferry to Kea. After one hour or so you will arrive in Korissia, the port town of Kea island. From there you will head towards the country house of award-winning and internationally renowned cookbook author, Aglaia Kremezi. She gardens, cooks, writes (also won the Julia Child award) and teaches Greek cooking to travelers.

She and her husband will welcome you and show you around their gorgeous garden and talk to you about Mediterranean plants, herbs trees and fruits. Costas, her husband, is the one taking care of those gardens and loves to BBQ fish and pork chops. He makes the most fiery and delicious penne with home-grown chilies and whatever else he finds in the fridge –smoky Kean sausage, capers, leftover shredded cabbage, wild greens, etc.

Then the cooking hands-on cooking class will start. You will use seasonal products, most of which from the same Kea island and even from the house garden. So, according to the time of the year and Aglaia’s inspiration you may learn to:

  • fry zucchini blossomsand other vegetables, and make skordalia (garlic spread) with almonds;
  • roll phyllo pastry and make pites (pies) – crunchy cheese pie, spinach and garden herb pie, etc.;
  • grill fish and more.

The cooking will be followed by a long Mediterranean lunch with dishes prepared in class and some other delicacies. After lunch we will drive you up hill to quaint Ioulis-Chora, the capital of the island. There you will be able to stroll its picturesque alleys and then go on a short hike along an old trail leading to oak forests. Half day-THE MARATHON LEGACY – Marathon & Ramnous Day Tour

Getting into the Northern and Eastern part of Attica region you will witness a surprising rural setting. A countryside with groves, vineyards and other cultivations, woods, lakes, the Eubean Sea and of course plenty of historic ancient sites. Some of them you will be able to explore with our “The Marathon Legacy” day tour.

We will pick-you up at 9 am at your place in Athens and drive to the Marathon Lake, some 40 kms North of the Greek capital. By the impressive dam, and set amidst lush pine greenery, nests a cozy cafe-restaurant. We will take our first brief (20’/30′) stop here, enjoy a Greek coffee or juice, admire the scenery and take wonderful panoramic pics.

We will then hit the road again and drive (25 mins.) all the way to Ramnous ancient site. Ramnous is a well preserved and natural area with a multitude of ancient settlements, fortifications, temples and theatres. We will explore its main area overlooking the Eubean Sea and dating back to the 6th century BC. The main monuments that we will view are the ruins of the Temple of Nemesis, the avenging Goddess, the fortified city-Acropolis and grave monuments scattered along the main road.

The next stop will be in historic Marathon, a 20 mins. ride from Ramnous, and maybe the only Greek city as or even more famous than Athens, worldwide. There we will visit the Memorial Tomb of the Athenian Hoplites and the Archaeological Museum. And of course learn all the story revolving around the epic battles against the Persian invaders and the Marathon battle – the quintessential struggle for liberty, independence and democracy – , and a major landmark in the history of Western Civilization. We will of course run in the footsteps of the first marathon runner, Miltiades, the untamed messenger that conveyed the famous “Nenikimamen” to the Athenians. Before leaving the site you will be offered a light snack and refreshment.

Leaving Marathon we will head to Kokotos Estate, a 7-hectare vineyard and winery where you will get the chance to taste some of the best wines of the region. International grape varieties such as Cabernet, Chardonnay, but also the local star, Savvatiano, and the Santorini grape Assyrtiko produce excellent wines exotic enough to claim your attention. After a brief wine tour and the wine tasting, we will then sit in a local tavern to try some authentic and delicious Greek food.

  • A tour guide for the whole tour

Half-day tour-CAPE SOUNIO & TRADITIONAL GREEK COOKING

Athens is blessed with a terrific coastline that few tourists know or get to enjoy. We will comfortably pick-you up at 9/ 9.30 am at your place and drive the 70 km's of the Athens Riviera all the way to Cape Sounio, the Southermost tip of the Attica peninsula. Along our way you will have the chance to admire all the must-sees of the Athens Riviera, such as the Kavouri peninsula, and take wonderful scenic pics.

Once in Sounio you will visit the majestic Temple of Poseidon (5th century BC). Cape Sounio is a spectacular place inhabited since the archaic times, where goddess Athens first and Poseidon God of the Seas later were worshiped. It was particularly relevant because of the rich silver mines in the area and it's geographic and strategic position. You will be able to admire 16 original columns of the Poseidon Temple, the military walls, ancient roads and dwellings below the temple.

After that we will take you to a secluded beach away from the crowds where you will be able to enjoy the sun and the blue clear waters of the Aegean in total relax. You will be able to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, reading your favorite holidays book, explore the coast or just lay back.

Touring and swimming makes you hungry, and for your lunch you will enjoy a special treat, a traditional mouth watering Greek lunch in a beautiful garden in a private house. Your host, a lady cook, will welcome you and show you how to prepare typical Greek specialties also baked in the stone oven and treat you some of her own food prepared with the seasonal goodies of her biological veg garden. Traditional pies, stuffed tomatos, eggplant salad, roasts and fish are only some of the delicacies you will taste. After lunch we will eventually return to Athens.

DAY 2.
After a hearty breakfast you can enjoy a last brief walk in Nauplio town before heading to the countryside to meet a local olive oilproducer. There you will learn all the secrets of this sacred tree from prehistory until today and taste fresh olive oil and various olive derivatives accompanied by delicious Greek small dishes.

Next we will drive to the archaeological site of Epidaurus, set amidst the lush Argolis pine forests, and one of the top destinations in Greece. Regarded as the birthplace of Western Medicine, due to the sanctuary of healer god Asclepius, it is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites (optional professional guided tour at extra cost). Walking around the archaeological site you will get the chance to see ruins of temples, the old stadium, baths, and of course the majestic theater, which still hosts theater plays in the summer.

Leaving Epidaurus, we will stop at the charming sea town of Palea Epidavros, where you will have some free time to spend enjoying a walk, swimming if hot weather and sample some more Greek food delicacies in a typical tavern. Later in the afternoon we will return to Athens (approx. 2 hours drive).
