Eleusis during antiquity was one of 5 sacred cities and the Eleusinian Mysteries that took place every year gathered visitors from the entire known world. The important sanctuary declined in the end of the 4th century BC. Nowadays at the archaeological site survive a lot of remarkable monuments.
