The first museum of the new Greek state was founded in 1828 by Ioannis Kapodistrias and is located at the archaeological site of Kolona, next to the ruins of prehistoric settlements. A lot of the findings come from the cemetery of Delos while other impressive findings are the representation of an Early Hellenic house and fragments of the pediments from the temple of Athena Aphaea and the temple of Apollo. There are also vases from Cyclades and Crete.
