The largest island of the Saronic gulf is very close to Piraeus that essentially it is one of its suburbs. Salamina is green with large areas filled with pine trees and beautiful landscapes. It has wonderful beaches, with a lot of people and bars on the sand but also isolated bays if you prefer quiet. At Salamina there are important historical monuments like the cave of Euripides, the Mycenaean Acropolis of Ajax but also Byzantine monasteries. Finish your walk with a meal at one of the city’s taverns with fresh fish and sea food.
