The history of the city that since antiquity has been the most important port of the country and was one of the largest commercial centres of Eastern Mediterranean is presented at the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus. The archaeological findings, from the Mycenaean to the Roman period, come from excavations and random discoveries while the collection was enriched by private donations. The two-storied building in Zea houses the exhibition areas at its floors and the underground areas the maintenance workshops.
