At a distance of 187 km from Athens, Delphi, an UNESCO cultural heritage monument, is an ideal choice for a one-day excursion from Athens. According to mythology, here was the meeting point of the two eagles that Zeus sent to the edges of the world in order to discover the centre of the earth. Nowadays, in the impressive archaeological site we can admire, among others, the temple of Apollo and the Siphnian Treasury. The Archaeological Museum houses the history of the famous oracle, while in a close distance is Arachova, a famous winter resort. There are a lot who combine their excursion  with a visit to the picturesque port of Itea, under the olive groves of Amfissa, eat at the seaside taverns with a view at the small islands of the bay.
