The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium is a modern football field which was built in 2004 to cover the needs of the Olympic Games in Athens at the location of the older, historical stadium. In 1895 the stadium was constructed as a Velodrome for the first modern Olympic Games while in 1964 it was reconstructed and was renamed to “Georgios Karaiskakis” since it was already used as a football field before the war. The modern stadium is used by the teams of Piraeus and the Greek National Football Team.
