Building of the National Archaeological Museum

The building of the National Archaeological Museum, which is a preserved monument on its own, was founded in 1866 and was based on plans by the architects Ludwig Lange and Panagiotis Kalsos. The final shaping of the façade was supervised by Ernest Ziller, who was responsible until 1889, when the western wing was completed. The completion of the Museum in its present day form took place gradually in the 20th century, with additions to the eastern side, in order to include the continuously increasing collections.
