The statue is part of the classicalist sculpture complex that decorates the Academy of Athens. Plato is depicted sitting wearing a chiton that leaves one shoulder bare. The right hand, slightly elevated touches the respective led while the left one holds the chiton. The right leg stretches out the basis on which the sculpture stands. Leonidas Drosis made this made the statue of marble in 1885.
