Panepistimiou
It was completed in 1859 although buildings appeared already from 1840. Designed initially as a boulevard with trees and large pavements for walks, Panepistimiou connects the two central squares of Athens, Syntagma and Omonoia. It is the historical “showcase” of the city with beautiful and impressive exhibits. The neoclassical trilogy, the Numismatic Museum, ο Catholic Cathedral Agios Dionysios, the cinema REX and the hotel Excelsior are some of the architectural jewels.
