The Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens was founded in 1914 and is housed at Villa Ilissia, at Vasilissis Sofias Avenue. One of the most important of its kind all over the world, it includes in its collections approximately 30,000 items, like portable icons, sculptures, pottery, religious textiles, paintings, miniature art, wall paintings and mosaics. There is a café-restaurant at its beautiful yard.
