Eleftherias Park stands right next to the Athens Megaron Concert Hall and was designed in the 1960s by the architect Panagiotis Vokotoloulos and the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, which is located at the centre of a monumental composition, is the work of Giannis Pappas. At the back side of the park are stone buildings which according to the Balkan Wars were used for military purposes and later during the military dictatorship were a prison. Nowadays, they house the Eleftherios Venizelos Museum and the Arts Centre of the Municipality of Athens.
