The first port of ancient Athens maintained its dominance until the creation of the port of Piraeus by Themistocles, while in the beginning of 1900, the tram already operated since 1830, it was converted into a resort with the mansions of wealthy Athenians. Some of these still exist at the coastal front opposite Trokantero, the building in Flisvos that houses the Municipal Cultural Centre and the seaside pedestrian street for a summer stroll. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is an important addition to the area.
